Almost there

I’ve been working with and shooting models pretty solidly since last January (2008). Whilst I always envisaged this would be part of what I do in terms of photography, it has been more or less all consuming for the last year. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the process enormously and in terms of exhibitions, distinctions and competitions my model work has been very successful for me. But I’m looking forward to moving on to, or indeed back to, some street work and hopefully some travel photography again. This weekends shoot with Anita De Bauch was the penulitmate model shoot for the foreseable future (fingers crossed)

Normally I’m pretty organised when it comes to shoots. The style is planned out in advance, model booked and chosen, flights arranged and have a few phone conversations with the model.. all well in advance of the shoot itself. But real life has been pretty hectic recently and I’ve been more or less living in or certainly commuting to the UK . So the planning for this shoot wasn’t up to my usual standard. It wasn’t until the evening before the shoot itself that I actually got around to ringing Anita and when I did go to do it, I realised I didn’t even have a contact number for her I wasn’t too concerned because I had already met Anita in person at the recent Focus Exhibition, but I felt pretty sheepish not having had crossed my t’s and dotted my i’s. Not only that, but I also left it too late to arrange a make-up artist. Neither of the two girls I normally use were available and my two back-ups also couldn’t make it. But luckily Anita was pretty comfortable doing her own, so she took me out of that hole.

All in all it was a pretty relaxed, fun day. Shooting at home (as is the normal modus operandi at this stage), shooting with just natural light and simple art nude – no styling. I did a few other sets just to warm us up (mainly me). Anita was SO polite and friendly and really keen to ensure I got the images I needed. In fact, apart from her insatiable appetite for mini chocolate muffins (I think she had 9 in all!!) she was the perfect guest/model on the day
