A Gold Medal In Argentina
 FIAP Acceptance: Poise (Argentina)

Following on from my “success” in the recent Luxembourg Salon, I’ve finally managed to win a Gold Medal, which was awarded to my image “Red Kayt” at the 4 star Fotogrupo 30/40 salon in Argentina :D Over the last few months I’ve been actively entering salons with the goal of gaining my AFIAP distinction and also to continue building up acceptances and awards around the world which will go towards my EFIAP distinction. I’ve been deliberatly entering a range of my images, to as many different salons as I can, in as many different countries as I can.

PSA Gold Medal & FIAP Acceptance: Red Kayt (Argentina)

It’s pretty rewarding in itself to get an acceptance, particularly in a 4 star or 5 star salon, as these are the salons that attract the work from the better photographers from around the world. So to finally win a gold medal is a real buzz. In the case of the Argentinian salon, I had 3 acceptances in total; the two colour images above and the monochrome image below. What’s really pleasing about it, is also the fact that two of the images are new images in terms of acceptances, so they count as new works :)

FIAP Acceptance: A Vacant Lot (Argentina)

In addition to the FotoGrupo salon, I also received notification back of an acceptance into the 5th International Salon in Malta and an acceptance into the 2nd CPNO International Photographic Exhibition in China :) So that is now a total of 84 acceptances, across 31 different images, accepted into 13 different salons from 9 countries around the world :!:

I’d also like to take time out to mention and indeed congratulate Wesley Law, from East Cork Camera Group who was the only other Irish entry in the Argentinian salon, achieving 4 acceptances. I wasn’t aware of his work until I saw his name on the acceptance list and did a quick Google and was pretty blown away by his work on his website.

  17. Congratulations Ciaran! Acceptances are heaping up, you must feel happy about that.

  18. Hi Ciaran,
I have visited your site here quite a few times and its no surprise that “Red Kayt” won a gold. All your work is really high quality. I see your name popping up all over the place today in the Cape digital in South Africa. Quite a few more to add to that tally of acceptances.
Thanks for the mention here. I am flattered.

  19. You can talk :) I had 17 acceptances in the Cape.. I think you beat me my two? Circuits are a really nice way of increasing your tally of acceptances, but unfortunately they only count as one salon. The Cape circuit has pushed me over the 100 mark (101) now and three images were new works, bringing my tally to 34 different images, 14 salons and 10 different countries. Getting closer to the 50 image mark :)

  20. 19 acceptances, you are right… But as you say a circuit is counted as one acceptance per image. When I was getting close to 30 acceptances with 10 images, it occurred to me that it would take a long time to get anywhere entering only 4 images in any one salon, so for Malta, Argentina and the Cape I entered a few different categories. I was lucky enough to get 6, 10 and 9 images accepted in these 3 salons with 13 new images. That makes it 49 acceptances with 22 images in 12 salons. When I started my goal was AFIAP but now I am thinking 50 images could be on the horizon next year. You have a big head start on me.. :-)

  21. My understanding is somewhat different Wesley.

A circuit counts as a single salon, however it counts as multiple acceptances. So if a circuit had 4 salons and an image was accepted into each salon, it would count as one salon, one country, one new work (assuming the image had never been accepted before) but actually 4 acceptances.

  22. Are you sure Ciaran? I read the criteria to mean that if a circuit has 4 salons but for distinctions is considered to be a single salon, then you cant have the same image accepted 4 times in a single salon but rather you had 4 chances to get an image accepted. If I am wrong then all the better.. (they dont make it clear really)

  23. I’m 100% sure (well 99.99%). I’ve checked with two people, an AFIAP and an EFIAP/b

As an example, if you enter an image into a circuit with let’s say 3 salons and it is accepted into each. Then in terms of your salon count, it increases by just 1 (a circuit counts as just one salon). But your acceptances increase by 3.
